This blog remains a work in progress — I work on it when I have the time. If you come back, you may notice incremental changes but not a wholesale face lift. Why? Because that would mean I have too much time on my hands and not enough paid work.
Saying that, one incremental change I tinker with is the so-called “Blog roll,” cleverly titled (for now) “We read” on this site. You’ll see it along the right-hand rail. I tinker because I struggle on what websites to include. Do I include the many blogs I scroll to regularly? The ones from friends who I want to see succeed? The sites from clients (who I also want to see succeed!)? Or just the odd and interesting?
I can’t decide, so we read includes all of the above. It doesn’t include the three newspapers delivered to my door each morning, the magazines that arrive in the mail or the books I buy — on my Kindle or paper form.
I picked a WordPress widget called Better Blogroll from former corporate drone (his words) Jon Dyer that allows me to sort the we read links randomly. Better, the link order changes each time the page is refreshed. I like this feature because the list always looks new for folks actually interested in what I read. (Post a comment if you have a suggestion.)
Of course, I’m a firm believer that folks need to read more printed products — books, newspapers, magazines — and less digital content, but I’ve stopped beating my head against the wall on this point.
Read what you want and on the platforms of your choice. All that matters is that you do read.
