Wii Fit workout working. Mii getting fit

My love for the Wii Fit has not waned since I first wrote about our family’s new toy last month. Sure, we play games with the kids and have started experimenting with new games for the boy — Marvel Super Hero Squad and Lego Star Wars — but the real value remains what the Wii has been doing for my waistline.

Some yoga poses for the Wii Fit Plus

As of this morning, I have shed 8 pounds since I’ve started to regularly use the Wii Fit Plus “game” at the end of December. Better, I’m still having fun — historically, I’ve quickly become bored with workouts — and regularly checking out new routines or unlocking tougher challenges. I’m even starting to appreciate yoga.

One testament to my slightly slimmer figure: I’m comfortably wearing the non-Mommy jeans my wife bought me for the holidays. (I’m not sure why they have a button below the zipper, though. Is that for hanging your keys?)

I still have some weight to lose before hitting my first goal, but I’m making steady progress. (It would help if I were serious about cutting down on the late-night snacking.)

If there’s one thing I don’t like about the Wii Fit, it’s the goofy Wii Fit age it gives you. When I started, my Wii Fit age was 58. Talk about freaking you out! Earlier this week, my Wii Fit age was 28. Sweet! But yesterday it leaped back up to 54.

Why the crazy jumps? I suspect it’s because when your Wii Fit age is measured, the software gives you different challenges. So if it’s the first time you do a certain challenge, you may not score well. As you get better at a challenge, your Wii Fit age goes down.

But after six weeks, throwing an unfamiliar challenge at you is not fair! After all, I’ve shed eight pounds and I’m feeling pretty good about things. Humor me, Wii, and keep me at 28.
