Pardon the self-promotion, part 2 (and Nintendo offers 3D gaming, minus glasses!)

The recent release of 3D TVs has led to a number of radio appearances for yours truly. I’m not a big fan of self-promotion, as I wrote before, but it has become an important part of “new media” today. (Skip to the end if you just want to hear me on the radio.)

Meanwhile, Nintendo is also entering the 3D game when it said Tuesday that a new version of the Nintendo DS hand-held game will have 3D functions but will not require special glasses, a potentially very cool development.  The Nintendo 3DS will make its debut in June at the E3 gaming trade show and is expected to hit store shelves within a year.

It’s unclear if the 3DS will be available for the 2010 holiday season, but I have a hunch it will.  If Nintendo can pull this trick off to create realistic 3D gameplay without glasses, it will be a huge hit.

By the way, the PlayStation 3 will also have 3D abilities, available this summer. But it will require users to download new software, and more important, require a 3D TV and special glasses as accessories.

Here are links to my recent segments:

March 24, 2010, with WGN-AM 720 morning host Greg Jarrett discussing the Nintendo 3DS, a coming 3D hand-held gaming system that does not require special 3D glasses.

March 19, 2010, with WOC-AM 1420 morning host Dan Kennedy discussing 3D TV and the coming programing.

March 16, 2010, with WGN-AM 720 morning host Greg Jarrett discussing 3D TV and what it will cost.
