Wahoo! A bouncing puppy your kids will embrace

The Wahoo is a durable and engaging bouncing puppy

If you’re interested in a toy that will entertain and exercise your kids indoors or out, the Wahoo is a great choice. This inflatable puppy is made for bouncing, similar to the sit-on bouncing balls you probably used as a kid. The difference: The Wahoo has four legs, making it is easier for little kids to manage than a bouncing ball.

Saying that, in family tests with a 2-year-old and 6-year-old, kids will fall using the Wahoo. “It can still do damage to you,” the boy said, wisely, after he tried to bounce as high as he could — and then fell off. Still, the Wahoo sits so close to the ground that kids will be fine even if they do fall. No kids were harmed in our tests. And trust me, they tried to hurt themselves.

More of concern: my kids fought over the Wahoo, sometimes using it as a wrestling prop, because they both wanted to bounce on it. Once they figured out they could both fit at the same time — it was a tight squeeze — and bounce together, the quarrelling stopped and a new way to use the Wahoo emerged.

Made of a thick rubberized material, the Wahoo is a durable little puppy that comes in pink or blue. My kids used a pink model heavily the past several days — inside on a wood floor and outdoors at a playground — and the puppy remains happy, whole and inflated.

A pump is included, and I had the toy out of the box and ready for bouncing in roughly three minutes. All you do is remove the plug, stick in the pump, spend a little time pumping, then put the plug back in. After that, the kids were all over it, particularly the little girl who loves riding toys.

The Wahoo is made by Marky Sparky, an independent toy maker. Prices range from $30 to $36 at various online stores, but you can also find the Wahoo at independent toy stores across the country.
