During a recent afternoon working remotely at Chicago’s Swim Cafe, I looked across the street and beyond the expanse of grass adjacent to Eckhart Park and saw a bevy of white semi-trailers parked on the other side. There were a lot of trucks, and as any Chicago resident can tell you, that sight only means one thing: film crew.
But what movie was being filmed? I have no idea. Well, now there’s an app for that, sort of.
With the inspired name of Movies Filmed in Chicago, the app is a guide that points out well-known and well-hidden movie locations that have placed Chicago in a starring role. (Unfortunately, I can’t tell you the name of the movie that was being shot near Eckhart Park, so how about a future update that lists movies currently filming in Chicago?)
The Movies Filmed in Chicago app includes 197 filming locations covering 290 movie scenes.
The app includes sites that have been researched, photographed and compared to the movies for accuracy and ease of finding the exact filming locations, according to the developer’s notes.
The app may be considered pricey at $4.99. However, if you’re looking to create a unique tour of Chicago, the app is worth the money.
Chicago’s Sagamore Apps developed the program, which will work across all of Apple’s iThings. Sagamore also developed the very fine Wright Around Chicago app, a great $1.99 tool for locals and tourists interested in seeing the Chicago area’s Frank Lloyd Wright buildings.
