I wrote about the online Yom Kippur services because Rabbi Levy believes in reaching out to “unaffiliated Jews and those that have become disconnected from the religion, for whatever reason,” she told me then.

In a nutshell, Google gave the often-overlooked contact feature in Gmail better structure and more intuitive tools. I barely knew I had a real problem and now I have a fine solution.

After Apple announced a press conference for Friday, Chicago Tonight, a staple of public TV station Channel 11, asked if I could come on the show to talk about the iPhone 4′s faulty antenna.
Here’s a clip of a talk-back I conducted with Chicago’s CLTV News about the frenzy Apple creates surrounding product launches. It’s the first time I did a TV interview via Skype. We may need to adjust a few settings.
I wrote one hockey story during my career as a business reporter — well, two if you include a tech review of the NHL’s GameCenter Live online video offering — and it drew about as much attention as anything I’ve ever written. (I even interviewed ESPN’s mullet king, Barry Melrose! See below.) The Chicago Blackhawks [...]

The kerfuffle over Steve Jobs’ essay on why Apple’s iStuff won’t support Adobe Flash provided good fodder for Friday’s appearance on WGN-AM 720 in Chicago. Here’s a link to the discussion with host Greg Jarrett. Meanwhile, in my blog post for Appolicious.com, I write about Wired Magazine’s discovery of the ‘lost iPhone’ finder, and how [...]
With the Apple iPad hitting stores Saturday, the usual media hype surrounding Steve Jobs’ latest gadget has hit full steam. On Thursday, I participated in the hype, appearing on “Chicago Tonight” to discuss the iPad’s expected market impact. As a bonus, I appeared with my buddy Brad Spirrison, the Sun-Times tech columnist and managing editor [...]

The recent release of 3D TVs has led to a number of radio appearances for yours truly. I’m not a big fan of self-promotion, as I wrote before, but it has become an important part of “new media” today. (Skip to the end if you just want to hear me on the radio.) Meanwhile, Nintendo [...]

If you like hate mail, write about why you don’t like the Wrigley Field scoreboard. And if your editor is a White Sox fan, he’ll make you publish that reaction. I’m reprinting this column because on Wednesday, the new owners of the Chicago Cubs said they want to put an advertisement above the left-field bleachers. [...]

Another “don’t mess with Wrigley Field” kerfuffle erupted Wednesday, when the Cubs’ new owners said they are close to an agreement to put a billboard advertising Toyota above the left-field bleachers. Not surprisingly, Cubs fans are aghast at the notion of sullying the pristine image of Wrigley Field. (Read the letters at the end of [...]

I’ve worked on a number of interesting projects in the last year, but the one I started a few weeks ago is the most personal. And, I suspect, it will be the most fun. I’ve started to work with Keith Kriegler (follow him on Twitter!), the founder of MyDadnMe.com, a social website for families that [...]

I have no great insights beyond that headline. I just spent about 15 to 25 minutes updating my profiles on LinkedIn and Twitter, checking my Facebook news feed and glancing — but not committing — to the chatter that filters through on Google Buzz. Sometimes I think of checking up on all those virtual hangouts [...]
In what may be considered a minor miracle in today’s wretched environment for print publications, a new Las Vegas weekly launched last week. Called Vegas Seven, it is a stylish publication featuring local news, smart features, offbeat profiles, cultural stories and personal technology. Guess what I get to contribute? My first column is on the [...]

My love for the Wii Fit has not waned since I first wrote about our family’s new toy last month. Sure, we play games with the kids and have started experimenting with new games for the boy — Marvel Super Hero Squad and Lego Star Wars — but the real value remains what the Wii [...]

This blog remains a work in progress — I work on it when I have the time. If you come back, you may notice incremental changes but not a wholesale face lift. Why? Because that would mean I have too much time on my hands and not enough paid work. Saying that, one incremental change [...]
